A Trip to Toccoa Falls with Kids

January 10, 2019by KacieNo Comments

We did it! We marked our first item off our Georgia Bucket List. We took a trip to Toccoa Falls with kids. Here’s why you should too.

New Years day I woke up to the most beautiful sunrise. Well, let’s be honest… I woke up WAY to early to my kids yelling for me… but then I got to experience the most beautiful sunrise. #worthit

It was a gorgeous day and surprisingly warm for Georgia, so we knew we wanted to get outside. We decided to kick off one of our 2019 goals right now… which is to travel around Georgia with our kids more. So we picked a place we had been wanting to check out for a while that is kid friendly… we took a trip to Toccoa Falls with kids.

Toccoa Falls is about 30 minutes away from where we live. It’s actually located on the Toccoa Falls College Campus, but is easily accessible by public during daylight hours.

I’ll be completely honest, I was expecting a small hike. I knew, from research, that it was okay for kids to walk, but I was still expecting a small hike. Not at all. As we drove up to the Welcome Center (which was closed at the time) you can actually see the waterfall from the road.

So we all piled out of the car, not even worrying about the stroller for our 3-year-old and headed up the short path along the river. Perfect falls to check out with young kids.

While we’re being honest here. I also totally thought it was going to be smaller than it was. I knew it would be pretty, but my expectations were low for some reason. This may have been one of the most beautiful waterfalls I’ve seen. Honestly. It was just such a beautiful and simple sight.

The kids loved climbing the rocks, skipping rocks in the river, and we got a few photo ops when possible. So if you’re in the North Georgia area, make sure you take a trip to Toccoa Falls with your kids. It’s an easy stop and you won’t regret it.

A list of Where to Travel Around Georgia with Young Kids

January 8, 2019by KacieNo Comments

One of our goals for this year is to travel more. And while we would love to get out and see the whole world… let’s be honest, that’s not so easy with two small kids(ages 6 and 3). The price of travel for a family of four ain’t cheap! And even though I grew up in Georgia, I had no clue all that was within a drive. So I set off to find where to travel around Georgia with young kids.T

So we’ve made a Family Bucket List of all the places to Travel around Georgia with Young Kids.

Texas Wine Country: Part 1

June 14, 2017by KacieNo Comments
texas wine country Part 1

It’s about time I brought you our trip through the Texas Wine Country.

And trust me when I say this, the trip is WELL worth reading about and most certainly taking yourself.

We’ve visited Napa and Sonoma, California. We’ve also taken a trip to the Virginia Wine Country. But this little piece of Texas found it’s way into our hearts.

Let’s start from the beginning.

We left on Friday Morning (my birthday). On our one hour drive North, we stopped by a winery we are members at called Sisters Creek Winery in Sisterdale, TX. We love this quaint winery and their wines. We’ve even had the chance to go to an exclusive event and taste their wine straight out of the barrel.

Road trip
We made it to Fredericksburg just before lunch time. We weren’t able to check into our hotel yet, so we decided to walk the streets and check out some of the shops.

Fredericksburg has one main street (called Main Street) where most of the B&B’s, hotels, and shops are found. It’s a pretty lengthy street (longer than I thought!) but easy to walk. So we walked the street and stepped into a few wine tasting shops for samples. We stopped and grabbed lunch at a not so classy german bar, but the food was good!

Once our bellies were full, we decided to check out one of the wine tasting rooms on our list. Grape Creek Vineyards. I had heard a lot of good things about this winery, but honestly didn’t have very high expectations. I was worried it would be over-commercialized with okay wine.

We stepped into their modern tasting room and were greeted instantly. Thankfully, it wasn’t crowded, which is how we like it. We decided to each taste a flight of red wine. Joel was our pourer and was absolutely fantastic. He was welcoming, funny, and knowledgable. He even told us how the staff actually gets to help plant some of the grapes each year, which I found really special.

We ended up loving the majority of the wines. We decided on the spot to join the club (especially since it meant our tasting fees were waived) and bought three bottles to take home with us. Once we were “in” we were able to taste some REALLY fantastic “Members Only” wine. It was GOOD WINE, ya’ll.

After this, we were ready to check into our Bed & Breakfast. We booked the Laurel Suite at the Hoffman Haus. The place was adorable and we were really impressed! I was welcomed and surprised by my husband with Champagne, flowers, and chocolate covered strawberries (my favorite!).

I’ll spare you the details of what the room looked like, instead you can check out the quick video below.

After taking the afternoon to rest and settle in, we headed out for dinner.

We had dinner at Cabernet Grill. I wish I had taken more pictures, but I completely 100% enjoyed myself in the moment. We sat out on the front porch that overlooked their small pond with running water. Steve ordered the Steak and I ordered the Coconut Shrimp. We shared both and created our own “Surf & Turf.” It was delicious.

We ended the night at a small bar with live music, before crashing for one WONDERFUL full nights worth of sleep without setting an alarm clock in the morning.

Stayed tuned for Part 2: Wine Tasting Day!
